Featherweights Packaging Design

This was an exercise in repackaging existing Jaybird wireless headphone into a more sustainable and compact packaging solution. Combining the lightweight impact the new packaging would have on the environment and the wireless message, I landed on the name “Featherweights.”

The process of designing the package went through many iterations, but the one aspect that remained consistent was
the display of the headphones. I wanted the earbuds to be displayed similar to jewelry, with a lot of the components hidden away. Combined with the Featherweights name, this idea lead to the owl design, leveraging the shape of the ear tips to act as the owl’s eyes. This design allows for a fun unboxing experience and adds value to the down-sized packaging. In addition, while most packaging is meant to be discarded, the internal box piece can also be repurposed as a cable wrap.

The final product is minimal, but still retains a feeling of quality that is important for an expensive piece of electronics.
